Site visits
This service is available to gardens and allotments within about a 50km radius of Borris, Co Carlow. An initial visit of 2½–3 hours costs €100.
If required, subsequent visits (minimum two hours) cost €25–30/hour, depending on distance travelled.

Day and half-day courses
These courses for 6 - 8 participants are run from my home near Borris, Co Carlow. Examples include:
Fruit trees and bushes: winter pruning: Saturday 20 February 2010, 10.00 - 16.00, €65. This course will cover winter pruning of apples, pears and soft fruit, with a practical session in the afternoon - bring boots and secateurs. There will be an hour's break at lunchtime.
Soil improvement and compost-making Saturday 20 March 2010, 10.00 - 13.00, €40. Central to organic growing is the principle of feeding the soil rather than the plants. You will learn how to improve your type of soil by adding manure and compost, and by using lime and other additives at the proper time. You will also learn what you can compost and how to make good compost efficiently.

VEC evening classes
Growing your own fruit and vegetables
February to Easter 2010. This course is aimed at people who have not grown vegetables before or who want to brush up their skills. It will be tailored to the needs of participants, in terms of their gardening skills, the space and time they have available, and what they want to grow. As far as possible, what you learn will enable you to take practical steps during the following week towards creating your vegetable garden and starting to sow, grow and harvest your fruit and vegetables. Courses will run at:
New Ross Vocational College, New Ross, Co Wexford
